Yumiko Takeshima Biography

Yumiko Takeshima is one of the most popular and richest Ballet Dancer who was born on August 5, 1970 in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan.

Takeshima was born in Asahikawa (Hokkaido), Japan on 5 August 1970. She grew up in Ebetsu in Hokkaido. Her grandparents and parents owned a small shop selling kimono. This was the place that inspired her later work as an artist and designer.

She began ballet training at the Miharu Ishikawa Ballet School when she was four years old. She was thirteen years old when she was admitted to the San Francisco Ballet School.

Takeshima won the 2005 and 2003 ‘Best Female Dancer Awards’ from Dance Europe Magazine.

She also received a gold medal at Kiev’s 1996 Serge Lifar International ballet Competition. Takeshima has performed at many galas, including multiple performances at Taipei’s International Ballet Star Gala.

Takeshima quit dancing in April 2014. Dawson’s classic ballet Giselle was her final performance. It
