He is widely versed in South African music idioms and has collaborated with some of the finest jazz musicians in South Africa. Gegana’s combos have graced the stages of South Africa’s major jazz festivals and premier live music venues.

Mlu, as he is familiarly known, has performed with South African and international musicians on local and global stages including France, Norway, Algeria and Mozambique. The most memorable of these performances was with Zim Ngqawana at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands.

As a session bass player, Mlu has been featured on the gospel, pop, and traditional music albums of his peers and a younger generation of music artists. He often experiments with cross-cultural, cross-genre and cross-generational music.
